Another Thank You

I am currently stationed in Afghanistan with the United States military and today I received a beautiful quilt.  I cannot express the appreciation I feel for all of the volunteers and donators that contributed to these quilts ending up here, with these soldiers.  I am amazed every day at the giving spirit of the American people and the blessings of our Lord.  After reading the story of the Camo Quilt Project, I can't help but wonder why we don't hear more stories like this instead of all of the bad in the world.  Your story certainly has the hand of God in it.  America is the greatest country in the world and organizations like yours and Glacier Transit & Storage is what makes it so great!  Thank you and everyone involved for the quilts, we truly appreciate them!

Ladies,

I apologize for the delay in my response; the internet is spotty over here. I am 2LT Genevieve Bostwick (Faust). I graduated from Plymouth High School in 2008 and am now based out of Ft Hood Texas serving as a platoon leader in a Regimental Support Squadron. My parents heard about your awesome service and linked up with you to send my whole platoon quilts. I wanted to say thank you so much for the time and care you put into serving us with these quilts. This deployment has been especially hard on my platoon because we were broken apart and sent to different forward operating bases (FOBs) all over the region to handle logistical support for the region. My soldiers are awesome and step up to accomplish any mission they are given, but it can be tough for them being divided into ones and twos and sent to various FOBs with units and leadership they aren't familiar with. Being able to forward them a quilt with a note reminding them that they are not alone or forgotten, has been a wonderful gift for me as a leader. My soldiers that are collocated with me were thrilled to receive the quilts and loved the cards inside. From me, and on behalf of my soldiers, thank you so much for your time and support.

SOLDIER GIVES A PERSONAL THANKS

Nothing motivates our volunteers more than having someone who received a camo quilt stop into our workshop to say thank you.  This happened a couple months ago.  LTC Robert Grierson and his family were travelling from their home town, Dubuque IA, to vacation in northern WI.  Their travel plans included stopping in Plymouth WI to visit the Camo Quilt Project.  Robert and his family happened to stop in just as Linda Wieck was leaving for the day.  Linda invited them in and The Grierson Family was given a grand tour of the workshop.  LTC Grierson was especially thankful for receiving his quilt while serving in Afghanistan.  He told Linda, "It was the only piece of bedding I had for half my tour".  Hugs, tears and thank yous were shared before this special family were on their way again.

Although the Griersons arrived at the Camo Quilt Project after the volunteers had left for the day, Linda was sure to let our volunteers know they came and how grateful LTC Grierson was to have a camo quilt.  Having that visit is really an encouragement to keep on cutting, sewing and sending the quilts to our young men and women serving in the Middle East.

ADJUSTABLE CHAIRS---YEAH!!!!!

Thanks to an anonymous donor, the Camo Quilt Project (CQP) now has 20 "gently used" office chairs---and they all are fully adjustable. No more sitting on folded quilts to adjust your seat height! These chairs are so comfortable that our volunteers won't even notice how long they have been sitting. Productivity will be on the rise and our volunteers will now have happy faces AND happy behinds!

Amy's Quilts

Before her death in the Fort Hood massacre, SSG Amy Krueger had requested quilts for her entire unit. We were able to complete these quilts, and thanks to a local company they were delivered to Fort Hood before the unit deployed. We received this note of thanks from MAJ Suttinger:

What a wonderful gift. Notice the smiles all around. We are all very touched and astonished at Amy’s wish and the entire dedicated effort it took for the Camo Quilt Project to make this work (along with some help from Johnsonville for delivery!) We leave soon and these will comfort us through the upcoming year. Thank you x 46!!!

Our troops deserve the best. That is why our quilts are filled with 100% cotton batting. We use the Warm & Natural batting made by The Warm Company. In June The Warm Company donated 3 rolls of batting, 124" by 25 yds each. That was enough to fill 85 quilts! THANK YOU to The Warm Company.
