I am currently
stationed in Afghanistan with the United States military and today I received a
beautiful quilt. I cannot express the appreciation I feel for all of the
volunteers and donators that contributed to these quilts ending up here, with
these soldiers. I am amazed every day at the giving spirit of the
American people and the blessings of our Lord. After reading the story of
the Camo Quilt Project, I can't help but wonder why we don't hear more stories
like this instead of all of the bad in the world. Your story certainly
has the hand of God in it. America is the greatest country in the world
and organizations like yours and Glacier Transit & Storage is what makes it
so great! Thank you and everyone involved for the quilts, we truly
appreciate them!
May God continue to Bless the USA!
Thanks again,
Dorothy Stroud

Here is a thank you note we received:
Ladies,
I
apologize for the delay in my response; the internet is spotty over here. I am
2LT Genevieve Bostwick (Faust). I graduated from Plymouth High School in 2008
and am now based out of Ft Hood Texas serving as a platoon leader in a
Regimental Support Squadron. My parents heard about your awesome service and
linked up with you to send my whole platoon quilts. I wanted to say thank you
so much for the time and care you put into serving us with these quilts. This
deployment has been especially hard on my platoon because we were broken apart
and sent to different forward operating bases (FOBs) all over the region to
handle logistical support for the region. My soldiers are awesome and step up
to accomplish any mission they are given, but it can be tough for them being
divided into ones and twos and sent to various FOBs with units and leadership
they aren't familiar with. Being able to forward them a quilt with a note
reminding them that they are not alone or forgotten, has been a wonderful gift
for me as a leader. My soldiers that are collocated with me were thrilled to
receive the quilts and loved the cards inside. From me, and on behalf of my
soldiers, thank you so much for your time and support.
Very
respectfully,
2LT
Bostwick, Genevieve

and Trans Platoon, Regimental Support Squadron, 3d Cavalry Regiment

Lap Quilts
We are now making lap quilts for the our veterans in assisted living and nursing homes. We have made 200+ Lap Quilts so far.
They are a small quilt measuring between 32" and 42" wide by approximately 42" to 50" long. The front of the quilt is a patchwork design made of patriotic fabrics. There is a small pocket with the veteran's name on it. The back of the quilt has fabric representing the branch of service the veteran served in. They are just large enough to cover the person and not interfere with the wheels on a wheel chair.

How Many of These Have You Made?
23,000+ of our camouflage quilts and 300+ patriotic lap quilts have been made and distributed to our troops! That's a lot of our brave men and women that now have a bit of comfort during their deployment and have been encouraged knowing that people "back home" have not forgotten them. Each quilt takes about 3 hours to make so that is at least 66,300 volunteer hours!
Our mission is to provide these quilts to U.S. military serving in the Middle East and we ask that the quilt you request be used for that purpose. We accept orders from individuals or from units. See "How to Order a Quilt" in the sidebar.
Right now, we have a slow down of orders and our volunteers want to keep on sewing for our troops. If you know of a troop who has recently deployed or will be deploying in the next month, please contact us.

KRUEGS FEST - Update.
THANK YOU to all who attended Kruegs Fest and made it such a success. This event raised $1,400 for the Camo Quilt Project!
Remembering "Kruegs"
In honor of Staff Sgt. Amy Krueger, a victim of the Texas Fort Hood Shooting, and to benefit the Fisher House of Milwaukee and the Camo Quilt Project of Plymouth, the first annual KruegsFest will be held on June 30 at TJ’s Sports Bar and Grill in Manitowoc, Wis.
From noon to 8 p.m., four rock bands with family ties to Amy will be donating their time and talents to pay tribute to one of our fallen heroes. Bands playing include SugarNova (Plymouth) featuring her cousins Dave Howell and Curtis Voigt, Consult the Briefcase (Stevens Point/Milwaukee) with cousin Shaun Krueger, the Charlie Bucket Band (Manitowoc) with uncle Dan Krueger, and a special reunion set by the Deweys, who will be playing together for the first time in nearly eight years.
In addition to live music, this benefit will feature food and beverage specials, and raffles featuring 50/50 cash prizes and other donated items will be available during the event at TJ's, with all proceeds going to the Fisher House of Milwaukee and the Camo Quilt Project of Plymouth.
“Amy's love for music went deep into her life and many events with her have a song that sparks a funny episode or just an enjoyable memory,” said Dan Krueger, uncle of SSG Krueger. “We know she will be here with us, rocking along!” Be a part of this new tradition and spend an afternoon like no other paying tribute to one of our fallen hero’s honor and sacrifice at KruegsFest.

Milwaukee Area CQP
The Camo Quilt Project has a facility in the Milwaukee area where volunteers can come and work on the quilts. Pilgrim Lutheran Church has offered us use of their basement for the workshops. A group of LWML (Lutheran Women Missionary League) women are overseeing the project. Thanks to a donation given by the American Legion Aux Unit 416, Greendale WI, and from NationalMutual Benefits, 6 new Janome sewing machines were purchased along with other items needed for the project. There are also a few older sewing machines for you to use. If you prefer, you can bring your own sewing machine. If you do not sew, you can pin, trim, press or inspect quilts.
The Milwaukee Area workshops have been meeting for 3 years and have completed 510 Army, 94 Marine and 45 Air Force quilts. That is a total of 651 quilts from the Pilgrim workshop! They have also made 821 extra cool ties. The CQP is very appreciative of the volunteers who come to Pilgrim and for the LWML ladies who oversee the project. Look under "Pages" in the side bar for the workshop hours.
