20,000th QUILT SENT!

Another milestone has been reached by the Camo Quilt Project---we have completed and shipped our 20,000th camo quilt.   The quilt is identified by the embroidered 20,000 on it and this special quilt has been sent to Afghanistan. We are hoping that the soldier receiving it will send us a photo.  It would mean so much to our volunteers to know who received this special quilt. 

The CQP has truly been blessed with many faithful volunteers!  We have a core of volunteers who come 3 times a week to help make the quilts---and they have been doing so for several years.  That is dedication and a heart for our men and women who are leaving their families to serve our country.  There are also many other volunteers who come at least once a month to work on the quilts.

Of course, our volunteers would not have materials to make the quilts except that we have many people who support the project financially. All funding for the project are given by individuals and organizations.  Each quilt costs about $25 to make.  You do the math---it took a LOT of funding to make those 20,000 quilts!

We are always looking for more volunteers and more individuals to support the project.  Come jump on our "band wagon".  You will find great joy in doing something very special for our troops. 

Applebee's Fund Raiser a SUCCESS!

Once again you did a great job of supporting the Camo Quilt Project by dining at Applebee's.  The event was held on July 12, 2012 and Applebee's donated a % of the food sales to our project for any diner presenting the flyer.  We do not have the final report, but the Sheboygan Applebee's reported that they will have over $700 to donate to us.  The Sheboygan location gave 25% and the other participating Applebee's gave 15%.  We have not heard from any of the other locations as to how much they raised.  This fund raiser was a great success because of all our supporters who went to Applebee's to dine. The Sheboygan location was SUPER BUSY and we are sure the other locaions were also hopping with CQP supporters.  Applebee's likes our project so much they want to do another fund raiser in October 2012.  Watch for further details to come in September.

Applebee's Dining to Donate - July 12, 2012

On July 12th, 2012 you can support the Camo Quilt Project by doing what you love, eating at Applebee's in Wisconsin.

When you Dine-in or order your food Carside to Go at any of the 38 Wisconsin Hospitality Group Applebee's on this special day, just present the flyer and they will donate at least 15% of food sales from the guest check of all flyers redeemed to our project.  If you go to the Sheboygan Applebee's they will donate 25% of food sales from the guest check of all Sheboygan flyers redeemed!  Yes, that's right, the Sheboygan Applebee's will give us 25%!!! 

REMEMBER:  JULY 12th  - ALL DAY - at APPLEBEE'S.

SOLDIER GIVES A PERSONAL THANKS

Nothing motivates our volunteers more than having someone who received a camo quilt stop into our workshop to say thank you.  This happened a couple months ago.  LTC Robert Grierson and his family were travelling from their home town, Dubuque IA, to vacation in northern WI.  Their travel plans included stopping in Plymouth WI to visit the Camo Quilt Project.  Robert and his family happened to stop in just as Linda Wieck was leaving for the day.  Linda invited them in and The Grierson Family was given a grand tour of the workshop.  LTC Grierson was especially thankful for receiving his quilt while serving in Afghanistan.  He told Linda, "It was the only piece of bedding I had for half my tour".  Hugs, tears and thank yous were shared before this special family were on their way again.

Although the Griersons arrived at the Camo Quilt Project after the volunteers had left for the day, Linda was sure to let our volunteers know they came and how grateful LTC Grierson was to have a camo quilt.  Having that visit is really an encouragement to keep on cutting, sewing and sending the quilts to our young men and women serving in the Middle East.

FEB 2012 APPLEBEE'S DINE TO DONATE a SUCCESS!

THANK YOU to everyone who supported the CQP by dining at Applebee's on Feb 2, 2012. The result was a donation of $1,182.

On February 2, 2012, APPLEBEE'S restaurants owned by Wisconsin Hospitality Group held a Dine to Donate event to support the Camo Quilt Project. Applebee's donated 15% of the total of the Guest Check for all who brought in a Dine to Donate/Camo Quilt Project flyer. The Sheboygan WI location was "bursting at the seams" with CQP supporters and volunteers from all over Wisconsin reported seeing CQP supporters dining at Applebee's that day. THANK YOU!

NBC News has advised us that they will NOT be airing the segment on the Camo Quilt Project.  They have, however, posted the report on their website and have released the report to their affiliates.  You can view the report at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032619/. You will need to go to "Latest Programs" and scroll down until you find the report about our project.  Linda Wieck, founder and designed of the quilt, has received MANY calls and emails from all across the U.S. letting her know they have seen the report on their local station.

CQP - Award Winning!

The Camo Quilt Project has received the Make A Difference Day award.  Created by USA WEEKEND Magazine, Make A Difference Day is an annual event that takes place on the fourth Saturday of every October.  Thanks to Connie Nelson, a volunteer from the Milwaukee Area CQP, we registered to be part of this great event.  CQP volunteers working in 4 states completed about 130 quilts on October 23, 2010.  We also registered to be considered for a $10,000 Make A Difference Day Award from Newman's Own---and WE WON! The award is given to 10 projects who participate in MADD.

This award comes at just the perfect time---when we have been very short on funds.  Lately the CQP has had to delay purchasing batting until enough donations came in.  $10,000 sounds like a lot of money (and it is!) but each month the project needs about $10,000-$12,000 to purchase the fabric, batting and other supplies needed to make the quilts.

Winning this award is a great honor for the CQP volunteers.  We ARE making a difference in the lives of our military. Even though we cannot give a quilt to everyone in the armed services (we only give them to those deployed in the Middle East), our military personnel will hear about the project and know we care.  That is what we are about---WE CARE and SUPPORT our military.  God bless you all.
